1966 Plymouth VIP

Not many people seem to work with these C-Bodies. This car was chosen by the owner due to plentiful legroom, making it practical for a 6'6 tall gentleman. This car was originally a 383 automatic car with the coveted "VIP" trim package. Being a C-Body limits the availability of aftermarket parts that can be used, luckily the owner had a vision of exactly what he wanted on this car and what he wanted the car to do. ICON Engineering started by removing the old tired 383 from the engine bay along with its accompanying TF 727 automatic. Using a core engine from our supply of 440s, ICON sent the block out to have the machine work performed and make sure the block was usable. Meanwhile the car was sent to a local paint shop where the engine bay was painted a matching metallic gray. The front suspension was removed and rebuilt with new bushings from PST. The front suspension as well as the rear axle were recipients of power assisted disc brakes at this time as well. The suspension was also cleaned up at the same time and upgraded with larger Firm Feel sway bars, front and rear to keep this beast from rolling too much in the corners; also added was a rebuilt Firm Feel power steering gear box to aid in steering this mammoth car. The fuel system was replaced including a 3/8" fuel line, electric fuel pump, and holley carb. The 440 block was from the machine shop and assembled using choice components to make streetable horsepower and an abundance of torque. The 727 was treated to a rebuild before it was slid back into the engine bay with the new 440. The now built 440 exhales through TTI ceramic coated headers and a complete TTI exhaust system which resembles sewer piper rather than exhaust tubing. The interior was left almost untouched save for the installation of a Grant steering wheel and a Grant safety hub which allows the quick removal of the steering wheel if desired. The differential was also victim of our hand when we replaced the old 3rd member with a new 3.23 sure grip unit. Electrical issues were addressed with a custom engine wiring harness and headlight harness. The bulkhead connector was also swapped to a new unit due to a previous head issue at the fusible link pass-through. The wheels are owner supplied 18" Torque Thrust IIs with Nitto tires doing their best to provide the grip. Minor issues also addressed were leaking door seals which were replaced with new rubber as well as replacement of the turn signal cam in the steering column.
