1970 Plymouth Cuda

1970 Plymouth Cuda

Restoring a 1970 Plymouth Cuda is not an easy task in this day and age. Especially when the owner wants a show car that will regularly attend shows and be judged. Being classified as a resto-mod does not help matters, as it is a very large field, making it very competitive. This particular 1970 Plymouth Cuda came to ICON and our orders were simple, strip the car, then put it together with all the new little things the owner wanted. Some of these "little things" included a Classic Auto Air air conditioning system, SSBC power front disc brakes, and an insane amount of restored pieces. Our job was made infinitely easier when the owner volunteered to assist the reassembly, giving him some fulfilling experience of helping to build his own car. He also did almost all the small part restoration on this car from the steering column to the most trivial details. ICON was responsible for disassembling the entire car and sending it to a previously arranged body shop the owner selected. While apart, the entire front suspension and axle housing was powder coated for durability and appearance. The engine was rebuilt, again by a previously selected shop by the owner, and later installed with the original 4-speed transmission which was rebuilt by ICON Engineering's Mike Schultz. The front suspension went together with new bushing from P-S-T and the rear was treated to new leaf springs and a completely new 3rd member. Electrical work was shared by ICON's Alex Campadonia and the owner, with the owner doing the majority. The interior was again a joint effort by ICON and the owner in a mad rush the night before a show. Everything on this car is new and it shows just how immaculate a car can be. After being driven a couple hundred miles the car was entered into the Spring Fling car show in Van Nuys. The class was Resto-mod E-body, with stiff competition, the Cuda placed third, a very respectable placing when considering the competition.
